Freelance WordPress Developer in Worcestershire
Hey, if you don’t know me already, let me introduce myself, I’m Steve Newbury – a freelance full-stack developer from rural Worcestershire.
My working life started in events, where I had an absolute blast travelling all over the UK and Europe. But then I discovered code – and the bug bit hard. Real hard.
I transitioned from my events background to become a self-taught WordPress developer. Starting from scratch, I’m now over 12 years in and have built my expertise across multiple languages and platforms, specialising in WordPress development and custom web applications.
Now I’m freelancing!
My speciality is WordPress development. I love WordPress – its versatility and its open-source nature.
For over a decade, I worked at a busy global agency as the go-to expert for all things WordPress. Now, I’ve transitioned again – this time to freelancing, where I offer custom WordPress solutions for agencies and businesses.
I’ve worked on and maintained a wide range of WordPress websites, from simple brochure sites to React-based PWAs with SSO, powered by a WordPress backend – including intranets, comms apps, touchscreen applications, and more. Clients I’ve had the privilege to work with range from events companies, to financial institutions, supermarkets, and global manufacturers.
My journey has given me a strong work ethic and a problem-solving mindset, allowing me to deliver high-quality, user-focused websites on time and within budget – even when the timeframes are crazy and unrealistic (such was life at a busy agency!).

Away from work
Away from my desk, I spend time adventuring with my fiancée and our pair of crazy spaniels. Travel, music, sport, cars – all those things, in no particular order (depending on who you ask!) – are what I love to do.

Working together?
If you’re looking for someone who’s not just technically solid but easy to work with, that’s where I come in. I’m collaborative, down-to-earth, and I genuinely care about the work I do. I’m not afraid to challenge ideas if I think there’s a better way forward, but I’m just as happy rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck in.
Whether you’re a fellow dev who needs an extra pair of hands, a designer who needs their vision bringing to life, or a stakeholder with a big idea and no idea where to start – I’ll meet you where you are, keep the technical jargon to a minimum, and help turn your vision into something real (and really good!).
